Wiping student debt?

The Green Party has pledged not only to scrap tuition fees for university students, but to wipe all existing debt held by graduates.

In March 2016, the total amount of debt owed by English students and EU students studying in England was £76.3bn.

To write off this debt, the Greens would have to pay out that amount from the public purse or find some other way of funding it.

This would represent a large outlay of cash from the government, although presumably it would only be a one-off payment, unlike their pledge to scrap tuition…
